Breakfast Bar Teacher Luncheon Idea

We have had a Teachers Breakfast Bar the past two years and it has been a HUGE hit.  And can I add, when I took over Hospitality, they had never had a "Luncheon" type of event.  Honestly, I was told it couldn't be done, that our staff was too big.  Coming from Junior High and a Fabulous Hospitality Coordinator there, it was only double the staff.  That's what I told myself at times of panic the past two years.  That and with NO BUDGET at the high school level, I couldn't panic.  I had to go with the flow, if we got what we asked for awesome, if not, oh well.  But we have exceeded our goals every time.  We have a fabulous group of parents backing us!  Not to mention, since they never had this kind of event, they wouldn't know they were missing something, right?

This year we had one as our regular event and also had one the first day of our Teachers Appreciation
Week.

After checking with the school to set our date, we emailed our parents two weeks before the event with items needed.

350 Staff

Hospitality will be hosting a "Breakfast Bar" on Friday November 16th for the teachers and staff at SCHOOL NAME.  We are seeking donations, but will need them dropped off Thursday morning the 15th or by my house that night, since we will start serving at 7 am on Friday.  We are in need of:

14 Dz Muffins, 14 Coffee Cakes, 6 Breads, 6 Gallons of Orange Juice, 11 $10 Starbucks gift cards (they have agreed to donate half the coffee).

After sending out the email, our Choir contacted us and said they sell Coffee as a fundraiser and wanted to donate it.  They were awesome, the had the serving canisters and made the coffee too.  So we were able to draw for Teachers to receive a Starbucks card.  They also brought the Sugars and Creamer.

On my list to do:
Check counts of what was needed, Cups for OJ, coffee cups, plates, forks, napkins.  Once I had them, and list was full and people were still contacting me, asked them to bring those items.

Theme: Coffee Shop (Diner).  We had made the scene setter at the junior high so we were able to borrow that.

I had found a great recipe that I use for my family on Breakfast Tacos, so I asked parents if they could sign up for some, and I did the rest that was left with this recipe:  http://homemadebytiffine.blogspot.com/2014/06/breakfast-tacos.html
I made a few changes to the recipe for the Crowd.  20 eggs, 36 Fajita Flour Tortilla, 8 oz Bag Cheddar Cheese, and I sprayed Pam on Foil and wrapped them individually that way.
The morning of the event, I tossed them in the oven to warm them up.  I loaded my cooler with them to keep them warm and also brought my roaster to pull up.

Breakfast Ideas:
Banana Nut Bread, Pumpkin Bread, Raisin Bread, Coffee Cakes, Blueberry Muffins, Banana Nut Muffins, Monkey Bread, Pigs in a Blanket, Cinnamon Rolls, Danishes, Quiche, Donuts, Kolaches, etc.  Contact your local businesses a few weeks before event to see if they would be willing to donate.  We have had Sausage Biscuits, kolaches, donuts, muffins all donated from businesses before.  To me it is easier to say the donations for Teacher Appreciation Week since we will be asking for so much food.

I am a list girl so when thinking of the event here are the notes I made:
  • Count plastic/paperware
  • Call Starbucks on Pricing and possible deals or donation
  • Email Volunteer Coordinator left over donation items needed and Volunteers needed
  • Make and send out invitiations

  • saran wrap, ziplocs for after the event

  • LOVED burritos/tacos

The next year we did this event, the choir sponsored the coffee again, we had BBQ place donate 25 lbs of Breakfast Brisket, we purchased flour tortillas, and a Bakery donated muffins.

When we had a Breakfast Bar scheduled for our Teachers Appreciation Week, we had a Breakfast place contact us and offer to serve the entire Breakfast Bar.  Talk about a Shocking Phone Call.  I had to say, "We have 350 staff members though".  They were like "No problem".  Cast out ALL your nets, you never know what you are going to get.  We had sent (Email/Fax) letters asking for gifts, products, (Listed what our theme days were on the food), etc, and had 3 days of our 5 days completely sponsored by an area business.  AND the breakfast place has offered to do it again for us this next year.
